The secret to a healthy pool is regular, routine maintenance, but cleaning your pool doesn’t have to be as difficult as you may think. Every pool has its own unique needs, which is why we recommend you consult with a pool expert on tricky situations, but there are little things you can do every now and then to ensure your pool stays pristine and healthy all year round. These three tips can also help lower your costs of maintaining your pool, as well.
1.) Skim Debris & Clean Out Baskets
Skimming your pool for debris and cleaning out the strainer baskets is hands down the easiest thing you can do to keep your pool clean and healthy. Skimming your pool can drastically cut down the amount of chlorine you need to put into your pool, which subsequently cuts down on your maintenance costs. Cleaning out the strainer baskets increases the circulation of your pool, as well. Doing these two things once a week will help maintain your pool’s pristine look for longer.
2.) Clean The Filter
There are three different type of pool filters: sand, diatomaceous earth and cartridge. Each of these filters require their own professional procedures, but you can maintain your particular filter by cleaning it out every other week. You don’t need to clean out the filter very often as it’s actually unhealthy for the filter to be cleaned more than recommended. Periodically cleaning it out is a great way to keep your filter and your pool healthy and clean!
3.) Check and Maintain the Water Level
During swimming season, your pool can lose a lot of water through general use and wear and tear. It’s important to keep the water level above the skimmer, otherwise the pump could get damaged. A great time to check your water levels is while you’re cleaning out debris with your skimmer. If the water level is below the skimmer, use your water hose to fill your pool back up to safe levels.
These tips are easy to do on your own and will help keep costs down on maintaining your pool all year round! While we recommend regular professional maintenance, these three simple tasks will ensure your pool will remain clean and healthy in between services.
